Mpanjakabenitany is a tree endemic to Madagascar. Literally, Mpanjakabenitany means "the Great King of the Earth",
Mpanjaka means king, Be: great, and Tany: earth.
It is also better known as sacred wood.
Some beliefs attribute virtues of power and prestige, even anti-evil properties, to it. Malagasy people use it to protect their homes; it is sometimes used as a candlestick or simply hung in a corner of the house. A person who comes to your home with the intention of harming you would not be able to do so because the sacred tree will act on their mind, making them forget why they came. This wood is used in rituals and serves to ward off all harmful spirits and bring good fortune.
